8th grade Rocket Launch

8th Graders at the Harlan Community School District are making two rockets with a partner in science class. The rocket has to have one different thing, like the height, weight, shapes of fins, small or big nose cone, type of paper, or tape you use. In the first launch there were eleven people who got the longest distance, two out of each class. The eleven people are: Mikayla E. – 70 Meters. Karl C. – 70 Meters. Macie S. – 69.8 Meters. Cassidy M. – 59.2 Meters. Hailey A. – 65.5 Meters .Bill W. – 58.1 Meters. Kenzie S. – 65 Meters. Dustin D. – 58.8 Meters. Jerad W– 66.8 Meters.

The weather didn’t really agree with the first, second, and third hour when we went outside, when the weather was cold, windy, foggy and a lot of precipitation in the air. For fourth, fifth, and sixth hour it was breezy, sunny and very humid.

Now the students are making a new rocket for a competition against the whole grade the top ten people will launch a second time, all the 8th graders will watch and see how they worked together and used the previous information to make a better rocket.

The top three groups with the highest out of the ten will get a prize. The scheduled launch was on Monday, the 27.
