Extended School Days(:

                                                Extended School Days

Obviously we all now know about the new extended school days here in Harlan Community School District. The reason for the new extended school days here in Harlan Schools is because we have had so many snow days this year that it pushed our school year into June. The teachers thoroughly thought this over and thought that most kids would rather be stuck inside a warm school than be held inside school when its sunny and hot outside and they could be outside. So they brought this to Mr. Mueller and he brought it up to the School District and they decided that adding on half an hour to our school days would be a better solution.

So now our days are longer, but our school year is shorter. We have to continue with these extended school days for 2 and half months. Some kids think this is a better idea than having to go until June. I asked Leah Fields what she thought about the longer school days and she replied “It’s dumb, because um you have to get up earlier and we start classes earlier and we don’t have time to actually sit before class and talk to people like we used to.” I also asked her if she thought it was a good thing since it doesn’t keep us in school in June. Leah then replied “t was a good thing since it doesn’t keep us in school in June. Leah then replied “Yeah, that’s the only good part about it.” So that’s Leah’s opinion.

I also asked Majesta Musich what she thought of the new school days. She replied, “I haven’t really noticed much of a difference, I don’t mind it.” I then asked her what I also asked Leah about it being better by keeping us out of school in June she said, “Yeah, I like that. Because I don’t want to be at school when I could be swimming.” So as you see, some kids mind the new school days and others don’t. Personally, I’d rather be in a warm school in the winter rather than be sitting in school in June wishing I was outside. But like I said, kids think differently. That’s just my opinion on the new school days. So bottom line, whether we like it or not, we have extended days for 2 and half months. And there’s nothing we can do to change that. But there are some advantages to the new days, think positive!
